Sergei Nikolaevich Naumov

Naumov, Sergei Nikolaevich

Born July 6 (18), 1874, in Kaluga Oblast; died Dec. 11, 1933, in Tashkent. Soviet organic chemist.

Naumov worked at the University of Moscow, which he had graduated from in 1897, and also taught at the Moscow Higher Technical School. In 1921 he was one of the founders of the Middle Asian University in Tashkent, where he was a professor until his death. In 1903, Naumov developed a new method for isolating six-membered cyclic orthodiketones. The method involved condensing esters of oxalic and adipic acids. Subsequently, he investigated the properties and reactions of the new orthodiketones.
