Sergei Pavlovich Finikov

Finikov, Sergei Pavlovich

 

Born Nov. 3 (15), 1883, in Novgorod; died Feb. 27, 1964, in Moscow. Soviet mathematician.

Finikov graduated from Moscow University in 1906 and became a professor at the university in 1918. He obtained a number of fundamental results in classic problems of the bending of surfaces and in the metric and projective theories of congruences. Finikov is one of the fathers of modern projective differential geometry. He founded a school of Soviet geometers.
