Ambartsumian, Ruben Sergeevich

 

Born Aug. 28, 1911, in Shusha (in the present-day Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Oblast); died Nov. 22, 1971, in Moscow. Soviet scientist in metallurgy and metal corrosion; Honored Worker in Science and Technology of the RSFSR; became corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR in 1966. Member of the CPSU since 1942.

Ambartsumian’s fundamental work in the field of creating new corrosion-resistant construction alloys and developing methods of protecting metals from corrosion has found wide application in technology. He was awarded the State Prize of the USSR in 1949 and 1951 and the Lenin Prize in 1960.
