Stalwart

Informal for a publicly-traded company that earns a steady but not staggering return. That is, a stalwart provides a solid return for little risk; one may think of a stalwart as the opposite of a growth stock. Peter Lynch coined the term stalwart to describe these companies. See also: Blue chip.
