Takho-Godi, Alibek Alibekovich

Born Aug. 15, 1892; died Oct. 9, 1937. Participant in the struggle for Soviet power in Dagestan; state figure. Member of the Communist Party from 1920.

Takho-Godi was born to a peasant family in the village of Urakhi, now in Sergokala Raion, of the Dagestan ASSR. He graduated from the law department of the University of Moscow in 1916. After the February Revolution of 1917, Takho-Godi was a member of the Dagestan Socialist Group. From 1918 to 1920 he was a member of the Military Revolutionary Committee of Dagestan. From 1920 to 1922 he served as people’s commissar for justice and people’s commissar for foodstuffs of the Dagestan ASSR and was a member of the Dagestan Oblast Committee of the RCP(B). He was also a member of the All-Russian Central Executive Committtee and chairman of its commission on supplies for the Dagestan ASSR. From 1922 to 1929 he was people’s commissar for education and deputy chairman of the Council of People’s Commissars of the Dagestan ASSR.

From 1929, Takho-Godi worked at the People’s Commissariat for Education of the RSFSR. He was one of the organizers and served as director of the Central Scientific Research Institute of Nationalities. From 1935 he was on the staff of the Central Committee of the ACP(B), and at the same time he taught at higher educational institutions in Moscow.
