peace movements

peace movements

political movements, such as the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND), which have become increasingly influential in modern societies, especially since the end of World War II and with the build-up of nuclear armaments. These movements have tended to draw their support especially from public sector professionals (e.g. teachers and welfare workers; see also MIDDLE-CLASS RADICALISM). To some extent, however, association with such organizations cross-cuts the LEFT-RIGHT CONTINUUM of conventional party politics.
