Formed by the confluence of the Finlay and Parsnip rivers, which rise in the Rocky Mountains, the Peace River is 1,923 km long, measured from the source of the Finlay River. It drains an area of 324,300 sq km and is fed chiefly by snow. The mean flow rate at Fort St. John is 1,100 cu m per sec. The river is frozen from October through May. It is navigable except for a section at the Vermilion Chutes. |
