Pribram, Karl

Pribram, Karl

(1919–73) neuropsychologist; born in Vienna, Austria. His family came to the United States in 1925, and he studied medicine at the University of Chicago under neurologist and brain surgeon Percival Bailey. He turned from the private practice of brain surgery to research (1948) after working with Karl Lashley at the Yerkes Laboratories in Orange Park, Fla. At Yale (to 1958) and at Stanford University (1958–73) he did valuable research on cerebral function.
