Sergei Shishko
Shishko, Sergei Fedorovich
Born June 12 (25), 1911, in Nosovka, in what is now Chernigov Oblast, Ukrainian SSR. Soviet painter. People’s Artist of the USSR (1974). Member of the CPSU from 1952.
Shishko attended the Kiev Art Institute from 1929 to 1933 and the Leningrad Academy of Arts from 1936 to 1943. He paints lyrical landscapes, mostly devoted to Kiev. Notable examples are Vladimir Hill (1946, Kharkov Art Museum), The Dnieper: View of the Podol (1950, Museum of Ukrainian Fine Arts of the Ukrainian SSR, Kiev), The Dnieper in the Morning (1953, Museum of Ukrainian Fine Arts), The New Kiev (1960, Voroshilovgrad Artem Art Museum), and The Vistas of Kiev (1974).
