Sergei Shpilevskii

Shpilevskii, Sergei Mikhailovich

 

Born May 8, 1833; died July 21, 1907. Russian historian; specialist in the history of law and the early history and archaeology of the Volga Region (Bulgaria on the Volga).

Shpilevskii was a professor at the University of Kazan from 1870 to 1885 and the director of the law school in Yaroslavl from 1885 to 1904. Shpilevskii’s Ancient Cities and Other Bulgar-Tatar Monuments in Kazan Province (1877) is a valuable catalog of historical sources and archaeological remains.
