Vestnik Akademii Nauk Sssr

(Journal of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR), a monthly scholarly journal; organ of the Presidium of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. Published since 1931. Until 1934 it was published in Leningrad; since 1935 it has been published in Moscow. The first editor was Academician V. P. Volgin; he was followed by the academicians N. P. Gorbunov, V. L. Komarov, S. I. Vavilov, and others. From 1966 to 1973 the editor in chief was M. D. Millionshchikov, vice-president of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR.

Vestnik Akademii Nauk SSSR publishes the materials of the general assemblies of the academy and the sessions of its presidium; articles on modern trends in science; summaries of scientific sessions, conferences, and meetings conducted by the academy and its institutions and scientific councils; and information about the current life of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR and important events in the life of the academies of sciences of the union republics. Communications about international scientific congresses and conventions, meetings between Soviet and foreign scholars, and their joint work are carried regularly. Significant space is allotted to the history of science and its memorable dates. In the “Criticism and Bibliography” section publications of the academy are reviewed and lists of books issued by the Nauka (Science) Publishing House are given. Circulation, 4,400 (1971).
