(Journal of Leningrad University), a scholarly journal; founded in 1946. In 1970 the journal was issued in six series: (1) history, language, and literature; (2) economics, philosophy, and law; (3) mathematics, mechanics, and astronomy; (4) physics and chemistry; (5) geology and geography; (6) biology. Each series publishes four issues per year. Articles of a theoretical, experimental, and practical character are published in the journal, and the latest achievements of Soviet science are described. There are also such sections as “Scientific News in Brief,” “From the History of Science,” “Surveys and Reviews,” and “Current Events.” The journal publishes English summaries of each article. As of 1971 the circulation of the various series ranged from 1,500 to 2,500.
