Vulchanov, Rangel

 

Born Oct. 12, 1928, in Sofia. Bulgarian director.

In 1952, Vulchanov graduated from the directing department of the Higher Institute of Dramatic Art in Sofia and began to work as an assistant director and actor at the Studio of Feature Films in Sofia. In 1958 he directed his first film, On the Little Island. Among the films Vulchanov directed are First Lesson (1960), Sun and Shadow (1961), The Inspector and the Night (1964), The She-wolf (1965), and Aesop (1969). The lofty enthusiasm of the majority of his films is aimed at the affirmation of people’s right to peace, happiness, and love. Several of his motion pictures have received prizes at international and national film festivals.
