real-time system

[′rēl ¦tīm ′sis·təm] (computer science) A system in which the computer is required to perform its tasks within the time restraints of some process or simultaneously with the system it is assisting.

real-time system

A computer system that responds to input signals fast enough to keep an operation moving at its required speed. Examples are video game computers and videoconferencing systems as well as computers used to control airplanes, space shuttles and self-driving cars. See real-time information system and real time.
