Peale, Raphaelle

(1774–1825) painter; born in Annapolis, Md. (son of Charles Willson Peale). Based in Philadelphia, he helped his father run the Peale Museum (1790s and 1800). He produced silhouettes (c. 1802), and illusionist still-life paintings which he called "deceptions," as seen in After the Bath (1823).
