Talaia

(also called Goriachie Kliuchi), an urban-type settlement in Khasyn Raion, Magadan Oblast, RSFSR, situated in the Talaia River valley, 287 km northeast of Magadan. Talaia is a pe-lotherapeutic health resort. The climate is markedly continental; winters are severe, with an average January temperature of –39°C, and summers are cool, with an average July temperature of up to 20°C. Annual precipitation is approximately 460 mm. Treatment makes use of the argillosilicate muds of Lake Nalim-noe as well as the water from a mineral spring; the water has the chemical composition

and is used for baths and drinking. Diseases treated at the resort include those of the musculoskeletal system and the peripheral nervous system, as well as gynecological and skin diseases. Talaia also has a poultry-breeding sovkhoz.
