Babushkino

Babushkino

an old Russian winter variety of apple tree. The fruits are of medium size (120 g), flattened round, with wide ribs, and are yellow in color, often with a light reddish tone. They have a spicy, sweet taste, with pleasant tartness and a strong aroma. They are ready to be picked at the end of September and are ready to be used within a month or a month and a half after picking. Under suitable conditions the fruits can be preserved until June. The trees are very frost-resistant. They grow slowly and bear fruit in their tenth to 12th year and keep bearing fruit until their 60th or 70th year. The harvest from each tree is 1–1½ centners. This variety predominates in the central region of the European part of the RSFSR, the Volga region, the northern Ukrainian SSR, and the Byelorussian SSR.
