Priessnitz, Vincenz Priessnitz, Vincenz A peasant farmer turned healer (1799–1851) from Gräfenberg, Austria, whose eclectic health system was based on the topical application of cold water compresses and ingestion of gallons of water. Until his death, Priessnitz treated many of the upper class at his water-cure establishment for various conditions, including asthma, gout, liver disease, measles, nervous conditions, rheumatic complaints, smallpox, syphilis and tumours. |
