Peat Tedder

a machine used to stir and spread a layer of cut peat to speed up drying. The first peat tedder, of the Kozlov-Kashcheev system (1931-32), consisted of 23 operating members (rakers) suspended on hinges 150 mm apart on a metal axle fastened onto a wheeled frame. As the machine moves about the field the movement of the rakers grasps a layer of cut peat and turns it 180°. Modern peat tedders are equipped with more advanced combs, which ensure better turning of the peat layer. Tedders consist of two middle and two side working sections that are connected by hinges to a trailer and are equipped with 128 rakers. On idle passes the side working sections can be raised to an angle of 40° by means of the tractor’s hydraulic system and two hydraulic cylinders mounted on the trailer.
