(yūni-vĕrsăl tūth kōding sistĕm) A dental designation system in which the permanent teeth are numbered 1-32, beginning with the maxillary right third molar (No. 1) and ending with the mandibular right third molar (No. 32). The primary teeth have a similar designation, preceded by "D". The American Dental Association designation system is similar except the primary teeth are identified by the letters a-t.
