Metabolic disease An idiopathic condition in which insoluble protein fibers are deposited in tissues, impairing function Clinical Sx linked to organs affected–tongue, intestines, muscle, nerves, skin, ligaments, heart, liver, spleen, kidneys, resulting in cardiomyopathy, renal failure, carpal tunnel syndrome, malabsorption, GI reflux, etc; PA deposits result in loss of resilience, stiffening, ↓ absorption and diffusion of metabolites; 2º amyloidosis may follow infection or inflammation
