Pechora Lowland

Pechora Lowland

a lowland in the northeastern European part of the RSFSR, in the Pechora River basin between the Urals and Timanskii Ridge. Sections of extremely marshy, flat plains composed of glaciofluvial sands and lacustrine clays alternate with hilly areas composed of morainic and sand-and-gravel deposits. There are numerous lakes, and marine terraces are developed along the shore for a distance of 30 km. The Bol’shezemel’skaia, Malozemel’skaia, and Timanskaia tundras are in the north. In the south there are coniferous forests, and on the watersheds, marshes.
