Tough Choices
Tough Choices
The name given to an expansion of London’s Drug Intervention Programme (DIP) that went into force in 2006, and consisted of:(1) drug testing on arrest;
(2) mandatory assessments;
(3) restriction on bail.
Tough Choices’ goals
Reduce drug related offending by:
• Identifying and accessing drug-misusing offenders through criminal justice interventions and managing them through the system and in treatment;
• Provide treatment and/or comprehensive programmes of care to problem drug-using offenders;
• Provide comprehensive programmes of care and support to drug users returning to the community from prison and residential treatment;
• Promptly re-engage in treatment those who prematurely drop out of treatment.
