Talgar Massif

 

a mountain massif in the northern Tien-Shan. The Talgar Massif, which rises to an elevation of 4,973 m at Talgar Peak, lies in the Kazakh SSR and borders the Kirghiz SSR. Formed by the highest part of the Zailiiskii Alatau, it is situated between the sources of the Talgar and upper Chilik rivers and a mountainous section that is situated to the south and joins the Talgar and Kungei-Alatau ranges. The massif is composed primarily of granites. The total area of glaciation is 271 sq km.
