Taligent

A company founded jointly by Apple and IBM in March 1992. HPannounced in January, 1994 that it would buy a 15% stake inTaligent. They are working on an "object-oriented operatingsystem", due to be finished sometime in 1995. However,various independent pieces of Taligent will likely appear tobe used with other operating systems, e.g. IBM's WorkplaceOS.Pink is an older name for Taligent, dating back to work thatApple did before the formation of Taligent.

Taligent

(Taligent, Inc., Cupertino, CA) A former software company formed by Apple and IBM to develop the next-generation operating system. TalOS was to be based on Apple's object-oriented operating system, code-named Pink, but was later disbanded. Taligent delivered its CommonPoint application frameworks and development tools for AIX and OS/2, but they were not widely used. It turned its focus to class libraries and Web tools and was folded into IBM in 1996. See also Teligent.
