Pedagogika

 

a scholarly educational publishing house of the Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of the USSR and the State Committee of the Council of Ministers of the USSR for Publishing, Printing, and the Book Trade.

Located in Moscow, Pedagogika was founded in 1945 as the publishing house of the Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of the RSFSR. From 1963 to 1969 it was part of the Prosveshchenie publishing house, becoming the Pedagogika publishing house in 1969. Pedagogika publishes collected works and selected writings of major educators, the proceedings of scholarly research institutes of the Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of the USSR, popular-science literature for teachers and parents on problems of education and upbringing, and Detskaia entsiklopediia (The Children’s Encyclopedia). It also publishes 15 journals dealing with scientific pedagogy and with methodology, including Sovet-skaia pedagogika (Soviet Pedagogy), Voprosy psikhologii (Problems of Psychology), Narodnoe obrazovanie (Public Education), Vospitanie shkol’nikov (The Upbringing of Schoolchildren), Shkola i proizvodstvo (School and Production), Vecherniaia sredniaia shkola (Evening Secondary School), Defektologiia (Defectology), and Prepodavanie istorii v shkole (Teaching History in School), as well as the widely read popular-science journal Sem’ia i shkola (Family and School). In 1973, Pedagogika issued 204 titles with a total of 33.3 million copies and 347.4 million printer’s sheets.
