Sumatra Selatan

a natural preserve in Indonesia, in the southern part of the island of Sumatra. The preserve, which covers an area of 356,800 hectares, was established in 1935 to protect the Indian elephant, the deer Rusa equina, the Asiatic tapir, the Sumatran two-horned rhinoceros, primates, and other animals, as well as tropical plants of the genus Rafflesia, particularly Rafflesia arnoldi.
