Veits, Veniamin Isaakovich

Born Dec. 23, 1904 (Jan. 5, 1905), in Chichersk, Mogilev Province; died Jan. 28, 1961, in Moscow. Soviet scientist in the field of power engineering; corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1933). Graduated from the First Moscow University in 1924 and from the Moscow Higher Technical School in 1925.

Beginning in 1925, Veits taught at various institutions of higher learning. In 1932 he began working at the G. M. Krzhizhanovskii Institute of Power Engineering. His works are devoted to research on power resources and their utilization, the power bases of the branches of the national economy, and power systems. From 1925 to 1930 he developed the fundamentals of power-engineering statistics. In the postwar years he carried out a research cycle on the development of power systems and the creation of a unified power system of the USSR. Veits was awarded the State Prize of the USSR in 1942.
