Venice Academy Gallery

 

one of Italy’s largest picture galleries. Founded in 1807. The gallery’s collection was begun with the founding of the Venetian Academy of Fine Arts (1750) on the initiative of the academy’s organizers—G. B. Piazetta and G. B. Tiepolo—and consists of Italian paintings of the 14th through 18th centuries, mainly of the Venetian school. It contains works by Jacopo, Gentile, and Giovanni Bellini, Vittore Carpaccio, Giorgione, Titian, Paolo Veronese, Jacopo Tintoretto, Jacapo Bassano, and others.
