Rebay, Hilla

Rebay, Hilla (b. Baroness Hildegard Anna Agusta Elisabeth Rebay von Ehrenweisen)

(1890–1967) painter, curator; born in Strasbourgh, Alsace, France. An abstract painter, she emigrated to New York City (1927), and was instrumental in establishing and directing (1939–51) the Guggenheim Museum of Non-Objective Painting (1939), which became the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum.
