Rebennack, (Malcolm John) “Dr. John”

(1940– ) musician; born in New Orleans. A versatile pianist and distinctive singer, he was one of the first white musicians associated with the rhythm and blues style of his hometown. He worked as a songwriter and session player between 1957–64, played with a variety of rock bands until 1981, and concentrated on classic jazz and blues styles as a solo performer thereafter.
