, fl. c.2680 B.C., king of ancient Egypt, founder of the IV dynasty. He was king for 23 years and was famous as the builder of the greatest pyramid at Giza.
..... Click the link for more information. . Snefru began commerce across the open sea with Phoenicia, for the cedar logs of Lebanon, and built ships nearly 170 ft (50 m) long for use on the Nile. He was successful against Nubia in the south and permanently established Egypt's power in the copper-producing Sinai peninsula. His tomb was the largest up to that time.

(also Sneferu, Snofru; throne name, Nebmaat). Egyptian pharaoh; founder of the Fourth Dynasty, which ruled from the late 28th to the mid-26th century B.C.
According to the Turin Papyrus, Snefru reigned for 24 years; according to Manetho, 29 years. He led devastating expeditions into Nubia, seizing great numbers of captives and livestock. In Byblos he seized 40 boats loaded with cedar wood, from which he had ships built and many buildings erected. Written works of the Middle Kingdom and later historical tradition characterize Snefru as a wise ruler, in contrast to his son and successor, the despot Khufu. [23–1900–]
