Cross-sectional echocardiography Cardiology A common ultrasound-based diagnostic method in cardiology, which provides high-resolution, 'real time' images of the heart and great vessels; it is the noninvasive method of choice for diagnosing and managing congenital, pericardial, myocardial, cardiac valve disease; it is used to evaluate end-diastolic intraventricular dimensions, septal and free wall thickness and depressed ventricular function.
