pri·mase (prī'māz), A polymerase that acts on a template DNA strand to produce RNA, resulting in the formation of an RNA primer needed in RNA replication. Synonym(s): dnaG [primer + -ase] primase an ENZYME that synthesizes RNA PRIMERS during DNA replication in bacteria and certain single-stranded DNA phages. The RNA primers can then be extended by DNA POLYMERASE (see DNA (b) REPLICATION). |
