Talkhatan-Baba

 

a mosque-mausoleum near Staryi Merv, Turkmen SSR. Talkhatan-Baba, an outstanding monument of Middle Asian architecture of the late 11th century, is a domed structure featuring patterned masonry of light-colored baked bricks combined with bricks set in low relief, creating geometrical shapes. It is characterized by the delicate harmony of its decorative elements and design, its light proportions, and its rich ornamentation.
