Snetogorskii Monastery

a monastery founded in the 13th century on the right bank of the Velikaia River near Pskov. (It is now situated on the northern outskirts of Pskov.) The monastery is named for Mount Snetnaia, where it was founded by the monk Ioasaf. It had lands and fishing rights on Lake Pskov. The monastery was attacked several times by the Livonian knights, and in the early 17th century the monks steadfastly fought the troops of the First False Dmitrii. In 1615 the monastery was attacked and taken by the Swedes. Since 1804 it has been the residence of the archbishops of Pskov. The early-14th-century Cathedral of the Nativity of Mary is located in the monastery complex.
