Rumanian Radio and Television

 

(Radioteleviziunea Română), a government organization of the Socialist Republic of Rumania. It has been operating under various names since May 1949; since 1974 Rumanian Radio and Television has been directed by the National Council of Rumanian Radio and Television. In 1977 the organization operated 52 radio stations and 24 television stations.

In addition to three domestic radio programs, there are foreign broadcasts in English, Arabic, Hungarian, Greek, Yiddish, Spanish, Italian, German, Persian, Portuguese, Rumanian, Russian, Serbian, and French. The television network broadcasts two programs, which are on the air for a total of 90 hours a week. The organization is a member of Intervision and of the International Radio and Television Organization.
