Tourky, Ahmed Riad

 

Born Mar. 16, 1902, in Tanta; died Jan. 17, 1971, in Cairo. Egyptian physical chemist.

After graduating from the University of Cairo, Tourky was appointed to the faculty; from 1953 to 1957 he was dean of the university’s department of sciences. Beginning in 1957, he headed the National Research Center of the Egyptian Scientific Research and Technological Academy. In 1965 he became president of the Supreme Council of Scientific Research. Tourky’s main works dealt with metal corrosion and the development and application of electrochemical methods of research.

Tourky was a foreign member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1958).
