serum/glucocorticoid-inducible kinase 1

serum/glucocorticoid-inducible kinase 1

A serine/threonine protein kinase encoded by a gene on chromosome 6q23, which activates certain K+, Na=, and Cl- channels in response to cell stress, and appears to be involved in cell survival, neuronal excitability and renal sodium excretion. It is highly expressed in hypertension and diabetic nephropathy.
