PEHISO 4217 code for the Peruvian sol, the former currency of Peru. It was introduced in 1863, replacing the Peruvian real and the Bolivian peso, which previously had circulated in different parts of the country. It was first pegged to the French franc, then to gold, and finally to the U.S. dollar. It was plagued by hyperinflation at the end of its use, and was replaced by the Peruvian inti in 1985.
