SUMO2

SUMO2

A gene on chromosome 17q25.1 that encodes a broadly expressed ubiquitin-like protein, which can be covalently attached to proteins as a monomer or a lysine-linked polymer. This post-translational modification on lysine residues of protein (sumolyation) plays a crucial role in a number of cellular processes, including nuclear transport, DNA replication and repair, mitosis and signal transduction. SUMO2 interacts with PELP1, SAE2 and USP25; it is activated when its precursor form is cleaved by SENP1 or SENP2.
