Printing and Publishing Institute

a higher technical educational institute that trains engineers for printing establishments and for enterprises that produce printing equipment. Also trained at printing and publishing institutes are editors of popular literature and informational publications, book designers, and financial and marketing personnel for the publishing industry.

In 1974, the USSR had two printing and publishing institutes —the Moscow Printing and Publishing Institute and the Ivan Fedorov Ukrainian Printing and Publishing Institute (founded in Kharkov in 1930; transferred to L’vov in 1945). Both institutes offer day, evening, and correspondence courses. They have preparatory divisions and graduate programs. There is a branch of the Moscow Printing and Publishing Institute in Leningrad, and the Ukrainian Printing and Publishing Institute has one in Kiev. The program of study lasts four to six years (depending on a student’s specialization and type of enrollment).
