pellet fusion pellet fusion[′pel·ət ‚fyü·zhən] (nucleonics) A method of controlled fusion in which the rapid implosion of a fuel pellet, produced by laser, electron, or ion beams, raises the temperature and density of the pellet core to levels at which nuclear fusion can take place before the pellet flies apart. Also known as inertial-confinement fusion. |
