Pel’ttser, Tat’iana Ivanovna

Born May 24 (June 6), 1904, in Moscow. Soviet Russian actress. People’s Artist of the USSR (1972). Member of the CPSU since 1956.

Pel’ttser studied with her father, the actor I. R. Pel’ttser, and began acting in 1920. From 1925 to 1940 she was an actress with the Moscow City Soviet of Trade Unions Theater (now the Mossovet Theater). From 1940 to 1947 she was with the Moscow “Miniature” Theater and since 1947 she has been in the company of the Moscow Theater of Satire. She is an actress of great charm, with a talent that is profoundly national and brilliantly comic. Pel’ttser creates satirical characters with great success. Her stage roles have included Luker’ia Pokhlebkina in D’iakonov’s Wedding With a Dowry, Manefa in Ostrovskii’s Even a Wise Man Stumbles, Madame Ksidias in Slavin’s Intervention, Aunt Toni in D’iarfash’s Awake and Sing, Praskov’ia Dmitrievna in Shtok’s The Spinster, and the title role in Brecht’s Mother Courage. She is widely known as a film actress. Her movie roles have included Evdokiia Brovkina in The Soldier Ivan Brovkin and Ivan Brovkin on Virgin Soil and Luker’ia in Wedding With a Dowry. She received the State Prize of the USSR in 1951. She has been awarded the Order of the October Revolution, the Order of the Red Banner of Labor, and various medals.
