Suna
an urban-type settlement and administrative center of Suna Raion, Kirov Oblast, RSFSR. Suna is situated on the Kirov-Viatskie Poliany highway, 92 km south of Kirov. It has a plant for the production of limestone powder and a butter factory.
Suna
(also Sun), a river in the Karelian ASSR. The Suna measures 280 km in length and drains an area of 7,670 sq km. It originates in Lake Kivi-Iarvi, on the West Karelian Elevation, and flows through a number of lakes, the largest of which are Roik-Navolotskoe, Gimol’skoe, Sundozero, Pandozero, and Koshtomozero. It forms rapids in as many as 50 places and also waterfalls, including Porporog, Girvas, and Kivach. The river empties into Kondopoga Bay of Lake Onega. It is fed primarily by snow. The mean flow rate 30 km from the mouth is 66 cu m per sec. Further downstream, most of the river’s water flows down the Pionernyi Canal to the Kondopoga Hydroelectric Power Plant. The river is used for floating timber.
