Reciprocal Crossing Over

Reciprocal Crossing Over

(also reciprocal cross), a system of two crossings—direct and reverse. In reciprocal crossing over, each of the genotypically different parental types A and B is used both as a maternal form and as a paternal form (♀ A × ♂ B and ♀ B × ♂ A). Differences between reciprocal hybrids may be caused by the maternal organism, cytoplasmic heredity, or sex-linked genes.
