Pembina Oil Field
the largest oil field in Canada. Located in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, in southwestern Alberta Province, the Pembina field was discovered in 1953. Its oil deposits are confined to Cretaceous sandstones. As of Jan. 1, 1973, the reserves were estimated at 143 million tons. In 1972 the quantity of oil extracted was 7.45 million tons. The oil is transported by pipeline to refineries in Edmonton, where it is processed by a branch of the US monopoly Standard Oil of New Jersey.
