Prisiazhniuk, Andrei Aleksandrovich

Born July 4(17), 1912, in the village of Pogrebishe, now in Vinnitsa Oblast. Soviet Russian actor. People’s Artist of the USSR (1973). Member of the CPSU since 1945.

Prisiazhniuk began his acting career in the Vladivostok Working Youth Theater (1930–32). He then acted in the theaters of Blagoveshchensk (1932), Spassk-Dal’nii (1933–37), and Us-suriisk (1937–38). Since 1938 he has acted in the company of the Vladivostok Dramatic Theater.

A comic actor, Prisiazhniuk has an infectious gift of humor, charm, masterly movements, and musical talent. At the same time, he has brought some comic roles to a level of tragedy, including Perfishka in Three, based on Gorky’s novel, Luzgin in Gorky’s The Counterfeit Coin, and Gennaro in De Filippo’s Man and Gentleman. Prisiazhniuk’s other roles have included Schast-livtsev in Ostrovskii’s The Forest, Perchikhin in Gorky’s Smug Citizens, Vas’ka Okorok in Vs. Ivanov’s Armored Train 14–69, the Watchmaker in Pogodin’s The Kremlin Chimes, the title role in Kvitka-Osnov’ianenko’s Shel’menko, the Orderly, Vainonen in Vishnevskii’s An Optimistic Tragedy, and Grandfather Sliva in Sofronov’s The Cook and The Cook Married. Prisiazhniuk was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor and several medals.
