Snowdrift Gauge
Snowdrift Gauge
an instrument for the measurement of the drifting of snow during blizzards. There are many designs for such gauges. For example, the Kuznetsov snowdrift gauge consists of a container with an inlet port that is aimed into the wind by a weathervane. The snow that enters the port settles to the bottom of the cylinder, and the air, after being freed of the snow, passes out through a tube; a baffle holds back the snow. The amount of snow is determined by weighing.
