tigering A descriptive term for the patchy lesions of fatty metamorphosis of the endocardium and papillary muscle, which is most prominent in the left ventricle, and caused by prolonged hypoxia, where red-brown myocardium alternates with yellow bands of fatty degeneration; a similar lesion is caused by diphtheriatigering (tī′gĕr-ĭng) [Gr. tigris, tiger] Tigerlike striped appearance of the heart muscle owing to irregular areas of fatty degeneration. This is seen in conditions that cause severe hypoxemia. |
